Kia ora
I have been a Herbalist and Midwife for a combined 47 years. I trained with herbalist Isla Burgess at the Waikato Centre for Herbal Medicine and graduated with honours in 1994. I was also taught by incredibly talented herbalists like Susun Weed, Dr Tieraona Lowdog, Ruth Trickey, Simon Mills, Kerry Bone, and others. I resonated with the wise woman tradition and was drawn to herbs for the childbearing year.
As a trained herbalist, I saw the many positive ways in which natural remedies and herbal medicine could be used to support women through conceiving, growing and birthing babies; I decided to train as a midwife to combine these two passions. Graduating in 2007 I began to weave my two professions together. Offering preconception care and advice, pregnancy care, non-pharmaceutical labour support and postpartum care. I have passionately supported families to achieve beautiful, empowering natural births and continue to do so by weaving natural remedies and herbal medicine into my midwifery practice.
With this passion for herbs in pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding, I have created and formulated a range of remedies made using organic herbs where possible and always practitioner-quality ingredients. These remedies are safe, effective and trusted among the many midwives throughout the country recommending and prescribing them for their clients.
I also provide education and study days on the introduction of herbs for the childbearing year for my midwifery and birth worker colleagues in New Zealand and Australia. The continuing education hours are approved by the Midwifery Council of New Zealand.
